Ceres Dentists and Dental Inlays

By Josie Lynn

Many people do not think of their teeth as something that can affect their overall health. The truth is it can. It is for this reason that many Ceres dentists recommend that a person gets an oral exam at least every six months. During an oral exam, a dentist will determine what dental work, if any, needs to be completed to ensure proper dental health. These regular oral exams and subsequent visits that may be needed to get dental work completed can be draining on the finances. Having a insurance plan can help alleviate some of the financial burden.

DDS stands for doctor of dental surgery. These individuals are as well trained as a regular medical physician. Here are some of the subjects that they study. Dentists study tooth composition. A tooth is made up of three main parts. These parts are 1) the enamel, 2) the dentine, and 3) the pulp. The enamel covers the inner workings and is made up of hard, durable white material. The dentine is sometimes referred to as the core and lies directly beneath the enamel. The pulp is the portion filled with nerves and blood vessels.

Like other cosmetic dentistry procedures where part of your teeth will be exposed and will be sealed in with an artificial material, there is always a risk of bacterial infection. Due to the process of taking out the tooth decay and placing over it the inlay, bacteria may be trapped and covered inside the tooth. If you observe any signs of infection, visit your dentist right away. This situation, however, is less likely to occur if you go to a reputable dental professional. If a dentist applies a local anesthetic on the area where the procedure will be done, there's a possibility of an allergic reaction. But this usually happens only if the dentist isn't informed about certain medications or parts of medical history of the patient that can trigger these allergies. This is why it's significant to have a thorough initial consultation with your dentist before undergoing any treatment.

On average, insurance will cover about eighty percent of most types of dental work that may be suggested by a dentist. Before the insurance covers this percentage, insurance policy holders will have to meet a specific deductible. This amount will vary among insurance providers. The deductible is paid directly to the dentist office at the time of service. Once the deductible is met, then subsequent services will be billed to the insurance company for the portion covered by the dental insurance policy. There are dental procedures that are considered to be cosmetic because they will not affect dental health or overall health. An example of a cosmetic procedure is teeth whitening. Some dental insurance policies will cover cosmetic dental procedures at a much lower percentage than that of typical dental work. Some cosmetic procedures can be costly but with the coverage by a dental insurance policy, the cost savings are well worth the cost of the plan.

Unlike metal fillings, porcelain inlays, in particular, don't change in shape or size when subjected to temperature changes. They are also easier to clean and more stain-resistant than traditional fillings. If you're going to have inlays on your teeth, simply keep in mind to follow proper oral hygiene and dental maintenance. Inlays are expected to last for at least 20 years. Check with your Ceres dentist for more information about dental inlays.
