Before they can be given the title, they have to undergo rigorous studies. The object of their study are the Torah and Talmud. These scriptures are the teachings of Judaism. To study it, they have to go to yeshiva, the institute for higher learning. After their studies, they take an examination and only after passing it can they undergo a rabbinical ordination. The ordination does not mean that they are already done with their studies. Understanding and interpreting the Torah is a lifelong commitment for them.

They also conduct Bat Mitzvah or Bar Mitzvah ceremony and training for teens who are entering Jewish adulthood. Such events are considered to be the coming of age of Jewish boys and girls. Lessons can be conducted on a one on one basis as learning could happen at different paces. Such lessons will help the young Jew better understand the Torah. The coming of age is something that happens to all Jews and thus they should be prepared for it.
