Many of us remember the times of coping with college schedules. You've probably tried to execute a daily schedule to help control your time better. But is it helping you as much as it may?
To make a time management schedule work best, you have got to understand how it operates, and learn to keep to it.
Before you can build a useful schedule, you have to understand the concept of time management.
What Does "Time Management" Actually Mean?
As you'd guess, it implies handling your time. That is, being productive, and concentrated on the jobs that are important, and must be finished, rather than wasting time on un-necessary and flighty things.
A schedule will help you to control your time by creating blocks for each task, or group of jobs, you want to do throughout your day, keeping you more productive.
If you do not have a clear plan for what you ought to be doing at any given time, it's more complicated to maintain a flow, and you have a tendency to choose time wasters (like television) rather than a particular task.
We have all got the same 24 hours, every day. By using a time management schedule, you can decide ahead of time how you need to spend those hours to get the things you need to be done, done. You must even schedule in down-time â" we all need to rest and relax.
Making a Time Management Schedule
To make a good schedule, you have to do more than just consider it in your consciousness. I find paper and pen most effectiveâ"even if I then transfer it to my PDA, smartphone or online calendar.
Start by writing down everything you need to finish. This can be daily jobs, or to start more simply, what you want to get done tomorrow.
Group related jobs together, and associate a time guess to each one. Do not worry about how correct the estimate is. If you're doubtful, pad the time a little bitâ"scheduling more time is miles better than scheduling less. And, as you work thru your program, you will get a better notion of what sort of time each task takes.
When you've got your jobs grouped and predicted, begin to get them in order into a schedule. Make sure to take into account priority (do the more important things earlier in the day), and also time-of-day requirements (like picking up the youngsters from school at 3:30pm).
Now that you've got the beginnings of your time management schedule, work thru it. It may take one or two weeks of refining before you've got the time estimates down, and the priorities in the right order.
Don't be afraid to change the schedule. Just use it as a tool to be more productive throughout your day.
